Men’s Soccer has Four Student-Athletes Named to D2CCA Men’s Soccer All-East Region Teams

NEWARK, Del. – Four Wilmington University men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2018 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2 CCA) Men's Soccer All-East Region Teams, as voted on by the regions Sports Information Directors.

Senior's Vinny Tasca and Will Stone, along with junior Elliott Johnson were named to the First Team All-Region Team, as junior Tom Garratt was named Second Team All-East Region.

Together, the quad led the Wildcats to the Second Round of the Regional Tournament against top seeded and nationally No. 9 ranked Adelphi, where they fell to the Panthers, 2-1. They finished the season with an overall 15-3-4 record.

Goalkeeper Vinny Tasca was the lone goalkeeper to make the D2CCA First Team All-East Region Team. Tasca started in all 22 games this season for the Wildcats in the net, allowing 21 goals against for a 0.92 goals against average. He made 59 saves throughout the season for a 0.738 save percentage. He recorded a season-high six saves in the Wildcats contest against Jefferson. The senior also recorded seven shutouts, while playing a total 2,064 minutes. He will leave as the program's all-time leader in shutouts with 18.

Senior midfielder Will Stone also appeared and started in all 22 games this season. He tied for first on the team with 12 goals and 14 assists (38 points). He finished the season with 32 shots on goal for a .508 shot on goal percentage. Stone secured a hat trick in the Wildcats 5-0 win over Goldey-Beacom, where he had three goals and two assists, which tied him for the program record with eight points in a single game.

Johnson, who also was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year, played and started in 21 games his junior season. He was a key player on the Wildcats back line, making sliding defensive saves throughout the season. He finished the season with one assist in the Wildcats 6-1 win over Felician on September 15.

Tom Garratt was tied with Will Stone with 12 goals on the year, while also dishing out 13 assists for 37 points. The junior forward played in 22 games, starting in 19 this season. He finished with 29 shots on goal for a .483 shot on goal percentage. Garratt was the Wildcats go-to player for penalty kicks, as he went 5-5 on the season. He secured a hat trick in the Wildcats 8-1 win over Nyack as he scored three goals on four shots (six points). Six of his goals this season were game-winners for WilmU.

The two teams (first and second) were comprised of four forwards, four midfielders, four defenders, and one goalkeeper. LIU Post's Lukas Ostermann was named East Region Player of the Year.
