Men’s Soccer Secures Second Straight 6-0 Victory With CACC Win Over Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – A second straight 6-0 shutout win propelled the Wilmington University men's soccer in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup at Bloomfield on Friday night at Foley Field.

The Wildcats (10-1-1, 4-1-1 CACC) have scored 12 unanswered goals within their last two games, as they secured their fifth shutout of the year over the Bears (3-7, 2-4 CACC).

WilmU would score their first three goals of the game within six minutes of each other to extend their lead by the 21^st minute of play.

Freshman Vegard Pernes would start the scoring for Wilmington in just the 15^th minute of play thanks to a ball from Keith Sanderson from the 15 yard line, which was deflected by Abdul Mansaray in front of the net for Pernes to knock in. Four minutes later, Shawn Genus capitalized on a Bloomfield turnover, which gave him a clear path for a shot from 23 yards out that gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

Within two minutes of Genus' goal, Abdul Mansaray got into the action as Fredrik Bentdal sent a ball over the top from the left side to Mansaray who took the crossing shot into the back of the net.

The Wildcats were not finished though, as they scored their next three goals in the second half within eight minutes of each other. Mansaray would net his second goal of the contest in the 53^rd minute on a shot from the deep right corner that was knocked in by the Bears defender to give WilmU a 4-0 lead.

Joe Bell got into the action four minutes later, deflecting Ellis McSharry's shot from 20 yards out, before Lorne Bickley sealed the 6-0 win with a penalty shot in the 61^st minute after a handball inside the box.

Abdul Mansaray has scored four goals in the past two games for the Wildcats, while dishing out an assist against the Bears. Vegard Pernes, Joe Bell, Lorne Bickley, and Shawn Genus all had one goal. Keith Sanderson, Ellis McSharry, and Fredrik Bentdal all dished out an assist. Gabriel Prgomet secured his fifth shutout in the net.

Wilmington will have four days off before their next matchup on Wednesday afternoon against Jefferson. Opening whistle is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Complex.
