Men’s Soccer’s Vegard Pernes and Women’s Volleyball’s Sarah Couch Named CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Wilmington University men's soccer and women's volleyball teams rounded out this week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week for the second week in a row, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Men's soccer's Vegard Pernes earned CACC Rookie of the Week as women's volleyball's Sarah Couch was named CACC Setter of the Week for a second consecutive week.

Freshman Vegard Pernes had two goals and one assist last week for the Wildcats to earn the CACC Rookie of the Week honors for the first time this season. Pernes had one goal on one shot and made two assists in the Wildcats 6-2 win over Jefferson to earn four points. The midfielder from Oslow, Norway played in 72 minutes throughout the Wildcats two games last week, finishing with 2.00 points per game, and 1.00 assists per game.

Sophomore Sarah Couch earned CACC Setter of the Week for a second week in a row and for the third time this season. Couch finished the week with 173 assists throughout four matches, to go along with 39 digs. She had at least 30 assists in each match played, including 32 assists and 10 digs in WilmU's 3-0 sweep over Goldey-Beacom. In the Wildcats doubleheader at Mercy, she put up 46 assists and 13 digs in the first match against Southern New Hampshire, while setting a new program record with 62 assists in their match against Mercy. She finished the week with 11.53 assists per set, 2.60 digs per set, while having eight service aces throughout 15 sets played. Couch remains second in the CACC with 10.13 assists per set, and tied for first in the conference with 0.56 service aces per set.

Men's soccer's Lorne Bickley earned a spot on this week's honor roll after scoring four goals on eight shots for eight points. Bickley currently leads all NCAA Division II with 19 goals on the year. Women's volleyball also had Bailey Andrews who earned a spot on the honor roll this week, after putting up 48 kills for a .361 hitting percentage last week. The red shirt junior had 17 kills in back-to-back matches to end the week. She also finished the week with 16 digs and five blocks.
