Four Wildcats Named CACC Players of the Week to Kickstart 2021 Fall Campaign

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The 2021 fall season has finally started and it didn't take long for the Wilmington University student-athletes to make their mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference as the conference office has announced this week's Players of the Week.

The Wildcats produced four CACC Players of the Week, as Shawn Genus was named the CACC Men's Soccer Player of the Week, Richard Thompson was named the CACC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, Emily Camp was named the CACC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, and Yailynn Ramirez was named the CACC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.

Shawn Genus (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) leads the CACC with seven points through two games played, scoring three goals and adding an assist last week. He scored twice in the season opener, adding an assist on the game-winning goal in the team's 5-2 victory over Bentley. He then scored the game-tying goal in the 64th minute against #15 Adelphi, a game the Wildcats would go on to win, 3-1. Five of his six shots last week were on goal.

Richard Thompson (Montego Bay, Jamaica) made his mark in his first two games as a Wildcat, assisting on two goals while leading the team to a 2-0-0 week. Both of his assists came against Bentley in the opener, helping the team to a 2-0 lead and a 4-1 lead last Thursday.

Emily Camp (Pittsgrove, N.J.) stopped all five shots she saw in the women's soccer season opening win over Daemen on Friday afternoon. She recorded her fourth shutout as a Wildcat with those five saves, keeping the clean sheet in the 2-0 victory.

Yailynn Ramirez (North East, Md.) was named the CACC Rookie of the Week after finishing eighth overall at the 20th Annual WUXC Invite on Saturday morning. She ran the 5K in 21:45.2 in her first collegiate cross country meet, becoming the fourth CACC member to cross the line, and first not in a West Chester or Felician uniform.

Four other Wildcats were named to the Weekly Honor Roll in their respective sports. Men's soccer's Shoki Yoshida scored two goals in his Wilmington debut to earn spot on the Honor Roll. Volleyball's Angel Oliver tied two single match records with 10 block assists and 13 total blocks to earn a spot on the CACC Honor Roll. Cross country's Logan Strouse finished second overall and Matt Gonzalez placed sixth overall to earn spots on the Honor Roll as well.
