NEWARK, Del. - - Shawn Genus scored three second half goals in a span of less than 13 minutes while the Wilmington University men's soccer team secured its first shutout of the season, 5-0, against Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Owls (0-3-1) provided the early scoring chances, hitting the post and making Konstantinos Parisis make a save from within close, before the 13th ranked Wildcats settled into the contest.

Yohan Kim broke the ice in the 32nd minute, being in the right place on a second opportunity from a corner. The initial corner was denied, but a second ball was sent back into the box. Richard Thompson's blast from the right side of the box found Kim on the left side of the box, and he was able to settle and get a quick shot off for his first goal as a Wildcat.

After the break, it was the Shawn Genus show, as he started scoring in the 50th minute and wasn't done until he collected a hat trick in the 62nd minute. Marius Skattum Dahl played a ball to Genus near the right post. Genus cut back to get the defender to lunge, and then a quick shot snuck inside the near post for the 2-0 lead. Skattum Dahl then nearly scored himself in the 54th minute, but Owl netminder Bailey Bassett made a sprawling save. Shawn Genus raced to the loose ball on the right post, scoring his second goal of the game off the rebound.

Shawn Genus than capped his hat trick in the 62nd minute, finishing off a through ball from Hakim Williams. Williams played a ball to Genus at the top of the 18-yard box. Genus got to the ball before the hard charging Bassett, and flicked it up over the goalkeeper, landing inside the six-yard box and bouncing in.

Tajhay Williams capped the scoring for the Wildcats in the 83rd minute, sending a rocket from 21 yards out into the upper right-hand corner for his first collegiate career goal. Tyler Guadagno picked up his first career assist on the play as well.

The only thing left was the clean sheet and Parisis made sure of that with a save in the 89th minute. He made three saves for his first career shutout.

The Wildcats have a Top 25 matchup for their next contest, as they welcome No. 16 Gannon to the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon. The opening whistle is set for 12:00 p.m.
