Marcus Hedemann Scores Twice to Defeat CACC Rival Post, 2-0, on Homecoming

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University men's soccer team capped Homecoming 2022 with a 2-0 win over the Post University Eagles Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup. The win leaves the Wildcats unbeaten in CACC play. Following today's results, the only other team who is also 4-0 in conference play is the University of Bridgeport.

The first half of action was primarily played in the middle of the pitch. Marcus Hedemann had the first shot for the 'Cats in the 12th minute. Hedemann shot finished high of the net about ten yards out. A great cross came from Richard Thompson, but the ball bounced onto Hedemann's feet which caused the ball to be too high.

Yohan Kim had a chance in the 24th minute from around 20 yards out. Kim had the ball on his left foot and switched it to his right for a shot. Kim's shot was low and hard but saved by Post's keeper David Mollenthiel.

Mads-Emil Roestbjaerg came into the match in the 26th minute. Three minutes later, he received a pass from Yohan Kim, as Roestbjaerg was just outside the six-yard box on the right side. Roestbjaer had an opportunity at goal, but a good angle from Momllenthiel cut his shot off.

After Roestbjaerg's chance in the 26th minute, he was on the end of a great opportunity in the 33rd minute. The Wildcats quickly countered a Post free kick that hit the Wildcats wall. The Wildcats had numbers as Kim found Roestbjaerg, which led to a two-on-one, with Hedemann joining the attack. Roestbjaerg and Hedemann played a quick 1-2 to lead Roestbjaerg to a great look at goal, but his shot was high. The Wildcats went into the half with the score remaining 0-0.

The Wildcats finally broke through fifteen minutes into the second half. They earned a free kick on the left, played quickly by Paul Young Jr. The ball eventually found Yohan Kim in the box on the right side. Kim displayed a fantastic amount of composure as he was able to fend off the keeper's attempt to grab the ball. Kim lost the ball for a second but saved it from going across the endline. Kim then chipped the ball in the air over four Post's defenders to find Hedemann unmarked for a header goal to the 'Cats up 1-0 in the 60th minute.

Paul Young Jr. had a great look at the goal a minute later as the Wildcats earned a corner taken by Max Norden in the 61st minute. Young Jr. got all of the ball with his right foot, with a hard and low shot that was dipping and swerving. In the end, Post's keeper David Mollenthiel made a spectacular save to prevent two quick goals by the Wildcats. However, Mollenthiel was back in danger as the deflection found Uchigashima's feet immediately. Uchigashima quickly found Hedemann in the box, but his header attempt went wide right.

Post earned a free kick in the 63rd minute from a foul by Wilmington. Post had an opportunity on the right side of the 18-yard box. The ball was whipped in right to left from a left-footed shot by Post's Gentian Selimi. Yvan Moundou was there to make the routine save to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Hedemann was able to add an insurance goal in the 86th minute. Richard Thompson put pressure on the Eagles' backline with a ball he played in with his left foot. Post did their best to clear the ball, but it found the feet of Hedemann. Hedemann found the keeper slightly off his line and found the upper right corner to put the Wildcats up 2-0 with his fifth goal of the year.

The Wildcats welcome the Thomas Jefferson University Ram's to the complex this upcoming Wednesday, September 28th. The CACC matchup is set to start at 4:00 PM.
