Felician Battles Back to Tie Men’s Soccer, 2-2, in Second Half Comeback

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University men's soccer team faced off against the Felician University Golden Falcons in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup this Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex, earning a point with a 2-2 tie.

The Wildcats saw their first chance in the 13th minute. Yohan Kim controlled the ball on the left side in the Wildcat's offensive third. Kim played a 1-2 ball with Tajhay Williams, and Kim then found Guadagno 20-yards out. Guadagno connected well with his shot attempt, but the shot sailed high. From the goal kick by Guadagno's shot, the Wildcats were able to win the second ball. Yohan Kim again found himself with the ball on the left side, inside the 18-yard box. Kim crossed the ball low and found the right foot of Marius Skattum-Dahl, who put away the chance with a first-time finish. The Wildcats were up 1-0 early in the 14th minute.

The Wildcats kept the pressure on as four minutes later, they earned a corner in the 18th minute. Guadagno found Malthe Hannesbo in the box. However, Hannesbo's header attempt went over the crossbar for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats' defense stepped up big in the closing minutes of the first half. They came up with two team saves in the 39th minute as the Golden Falcons earned a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box on the left side. Bas Markus set up a three-person wall to prevent any ball from sneaking to the near post. Malthe Hannesbo covered the back post and cleared the ball out of the net with his head. The Golden Falcons earned a corner from Hannesbo's goal-line clearance. The Golden Falcons attempted the corner from the right side of the field. The Golden Falcons again won a header in the box, destined for the top right corner. Ryuga Uchigashima recorded the team save as he cleared the ball from finding the back of the net with a header.

Ten minutes into the second half, Marcus Hedemann put the 'Cats up 2-0. Hedemann played a 1-2 ball with Tajhay Williams. Hedemann then flicked the ball up with his left foot, over the defender, then stuck the ball the first time with his right foot.

The Golden Falcons would not go down quietly as they answered back with their own goal not even a minute later. The Golden Falcons won possession in the midfield. They quickly strung two passes together and had the ball in the box. Felician's Dario Gomez beat Markus with a low shot to the left corner. The score was 2-1 after 56 minutes.

The Golden Falcons scored the equalizer in the 71st minute. The Golden Falcons again won the ball around midfield. They quickly moved the ball to the top of the 18-yard box. Then, they played a through ball to the left side of the box. Dario Gomez was on the end of the ball and tied the game at two apiece.

The Wildcat's final shot came from a header by Joni Ndrenika, who won the ball well in the air, but his shot was kept out of the net.

The Wildcats outshot the Golden Falcons 12-9. The Wildcats earned eight corners to the Golden Falcons' two.

The Wildcats will be back in action with a quick turnaround on Tuesday, October 18th, when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Holy Family Tigers at 4:00 p.m.
