Wilmington Softball’s Rosa’Lynn Burton Named CACC Rookie of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - In being the catalyst for the Wilmington University softball team's offense in a perfect 6-0 week, freshman outfielder Rosa'Lynn Burton has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Burton (Dove, Del./Caesar Rodney) played in five of the team's six games and went 12-for-18 (.667) with nine runs scored from atop the Wildcats' lineup. She also posted a double and two triples while going a perfect 5-for-5 on the base paths.

Her week started by collecting a hit in her first seven at-bats, spanning three games. She went 2-for-2 with a run scored in game one against Georgian Court before an injury sidelined her for the rest of the doubleheader. Burton than went 4-for-4 in game one at Post, hitting a double and a triple while knocking in two runners and scoring three more. She also collected a hit in her first at bat in game two at Post, capping off a 7-for-7 streak. She finished game two at Post, 2-for-4 with three more runs scored.

Burton's week ended by going 4-for-8 against Concordia, going 2-for-4 in each game. She hit a triple in game two against Concordia, scoring twice as well.

In the doubleheader at Post, the freshman went 6-for-8 with a double, a triple, two RBI, and six runs scored.

Burton is now second in the CACC with a .443 batting average while leading the league with 30 runs scored and 24 stolen bases. Her 24 stolen bases are already a single season record for the Wildcats.

It is the second time this season that Burton has been honored by the CACC, as she was the CACC Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week on February 21.

Wilmington's Caitlyn Whiteside was named to the Weekly Honor Roll this week, as was baseball's Rocky Ferrier.
