Wilmington Softball’s Kaitlyn Slater and Rosa’Lynn Burton Named CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Leading their team to a 7-3 week last week, Wilmington University softball student-athletes Kaitlyn Slater and Rosa'Lynn Burton were named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player and Rookie of the Week respectively, as announced by the conference office Monday.

The two rarely got out last week, while Slater showed a power surge in coming down the stretch in the regular season. It is the first time this season the Slater has been named the CACC Player of the Week and the third time Burton has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week this season.

Slater (Harrington, Del./Woodbridge) hit 17-for-35 in 10 games last week, bringing in 20 RBI while scoring 11 more. She hit five homers last week while setting the program's single-season record with her eighth of the year, while adding four doubles in the mix as well. She slugged 1.029 for the week.

The senior had a hit in nine of the 10 games last week, including going 5-for-8 with nine RBI and three runs scored in a doubleheader against East Stroudsburg. She went 4-for-4 with six RBI and two home runs in game two at Felician. Slater went 2-for-3 in game two at Kutztown while wrapping up the week with a 2-for-3 performance with a double in game one against Shippensburg.

Burton (Dover, Del/Caesar Rodney) led the team with a .487 batting average last week, hitting .487 with two doubles and her first collegiate home run. She knocked in 10 RBI while scoring 10 runs scored. She also went 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts as well.

The freshman had a hit in nine of the 10 games last week, hitting a week's best 7-for-9 with a double, three RBI, and four runs scored in a doubleheader against East Stroudsburg. Burton then came back and went 5-for-9 with four RBI and a double against Chestnut Hill a day later. She capped her week by going 2-for-4 with her first collegiate home run in game one against Shippensburg, batting a combined 4-for-8 in the doubleheader.

Wilmington baseball's Zach Rumford and Regan Hidalgo were mentioned on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, as was women's lacrosse's Gabby Spalt.
