ROANOKE, Va. - - Wilmington University outfielder Rosa'Lynn Burton capped her outstanding freshman campaign by being named to the 2017 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Second Team All-American on Wednesday night at the awards banquet prior to the Division II National Tournament.

It is the first NFCA All-American in the Wildcats' NCAA era while also the first time a student-athlete has earned Second Team All-American stature in program history. Burton (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) joins alumnae Katie Warrington (2013) and Chelsea Botsch (2015) and the only other All-Americans for the Wildcats.

Burton led the Wildcats and finished second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a .463 batting average, while also pacing the league with 88 hits, 57 runs, and 41 stolen bases, all of which were single season program records for the Wildcats. The CACC Freshman of the Year owns a .500 on-base percentage with 12 doubles, seven triples (which are tied for 10th in the NCAA), and a homer for a .616 slugging percentage. She was only five stolen bases off the Division II national leader following the Regional Tournaments.

The left fielder and leadoff hitter helped the Wildcats to a 36-21 overall record and a 17-9 mark in the CACC, good enough for a fourth place finish in the standings. The Wildcats then earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament to mark their fourth straight appearance. Burton and the Wildcats advanced to the East Region I Tournament Championshipround against top seeded and host Adelphi, going 2-2 in the tournament.

Burton was invited to the banquet after being named one of the Top Eight Finalists for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Freshman of the Year last week. Harding's Autumn Humes earned the National Award on Wednesday night after going 33-3 with a 1.19 ERA and seven saves in the circle, while also batting .346 with 10 doubles, seven homers, and 53 RBI at the plate.

Minnesota State Mankato's senior Coley Ries was voted the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year after going 36-3 with 426 strikeouts and 16 shutouts in the first for the Mavericks.
