LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Wilmington University softball sophomore outfielder Rosa'Lynn Burton has been selected to the "Watch List" for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Schutt Sports Division II National Player of the Year award.

Burton (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) helped lead the Wildcats to a 36-21 overall record a season ago, advancing to the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament for the fourth straight year. The Wildcats went 2-2 in Regionals, playing for the East Region 1 Tournament Championship before falling.

The left fielder batted .463 as a freshman in 2017, which ranks fifth in all NCAA Division II among returning players. Burton set multiple single season records for the Wildcats' program last year, including hits (88), runs (57), triples (7), batting average, total bases (117), and stolen bases (45). Her 45 stolen bases were third most in all of NCAA Division II last year.

Burton isn't the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player on the watch list, as Caldwell's catcher Marisa Monasseri joins her.

The Top 25 finalists for the 2017 NFCA/Schutt Sports Division II National Player of the Year award will be announced on April 23. A student-athlete does not have to be on watch list to be considered for the Top 25. The top-10 finalists will be announced on May 15 and the winner will be recognized on June 4 following the conclusion of the 2018 season.

The Wildcats' season begins with a trip to Myrtle Beach starting on February 16 against Merrimack and Le Moyne.
