Annie Davila, Chris Smith, and Maddie Hurm Highlight Wilmington Athletics on CACC Weekly Reports

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The calendar has turned to April which only means its becoming crunch time for the Wilmington University spring sport student-athletes, and they continue to shine as three more Wildcats have been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week in their respective sports.

Softball's Annie Davila put on a power show last week and was named the CACC Co-Player of the Week. Men's Lacrosse's Chris Smith led the Wildcats to their second win and was named CACC Player of the Week. Women's Lacrosse's Maddie Hurm led the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, being named the Defensive Player of the Week.

In three games last week, Annie Davila (Yorba Linda, Calif./Yorba Linda) went 5-for-7 with three home runs, nine RBI, and three runs scored. Her week started with a three-run homer in the third inning of game one at Nyack, putting the Wildcats up 6-0. In game two that day, Davila started the scoring with a solo shot before hitting another three-run blast to account for all four of the Wildcats runs in the game. At Chestnut Hill, she hit a two-run single in the top of the third, accounting for all the runs in a 2-0 victory.  It is the first time in her career that she has been named a CACC Player of the Week.

Chris Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) led the men's lacrosse team to their second win in program history, contributing seven points at Davis & Elkins on Thursday. Before that, he scored a season high five goals at Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday afternoon. At Davis & Elkins, Smith scored three goals and contributed four assists for seven points, adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the victory. He is now tied for the team lead with 20 points, scoring 14 goals with six assists on the season. It is the first time in his career that he has been named a CACC Player of the Week.

Maddie Hurm (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) led the women's lacrosse team to two wins, including one in the CACC, by making 30 stops in two games. She made 13 saves in a 19-9 victory at Holy Family, stopping 59.1 percent of the shots faced. She then came back and made 17 saves in a 16-15 victory against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, stopping 53.1 percent of the shots she faced. The 17 saves are the most in a victory in Hurm's career.  It is the first time in her career that has been named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Rounding out the CACC Weekly Reports, baseball's Christian Adorno was mentioned to the CACC Honor Roll after going 4-for-5 with three doubles in game one at Jefferson. Men's lacrosse's Chris Burley scored five goals and two assists in two games to earn a spot on the CACC Honor Roll. Women's lacrosse's Lashay Ross tied the program record with 13 draw controls, in each game last week, as well as scoring 10 goals to earn a spot on the CACC Honor Roll as well.
