Softball Concludes CACC Sweep of Chestnut, 10-1, With Single Game Friday

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University softball team defeated Chestnut Hill, 10-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference single game Friday afternoon at Chestnut Hill.

The Wildcats' (15-4 CACC, 28-13 overall) pitcher Makayla McCarthy led the team to the 10-1 victory pitching all six innings with nine strikeouts, two hits and one run.

Despite Chestnut Hill scoring in their first at bat, it didn't take long for Alyssa Velasquez to single down the left field line bringing Lauren Lopez in to score the first run for the Cats in the top of the second.

Two innings later Annie Davila steps up and doubled to right field, Rosa'Lynn Burton advanced to third and Velasquez scored, bringing the score to 3-1.

Top of the sixth with the bases loaded, Burton smacks a double down the left field line allowing Lopez and Velasquez to score. Also, in the top of the sixth, Llamas continues the scoring on a wild pitch, bringing the Cats to a 6-1 lead over the Griffins.

The big sixth inning continued for the Cats with Makayla McCarthy doubling to center field bringing in Burton and Davila, giving Wildcats an 8-1 lead.

Lexi Baughman capped the top of the sixth with a homerun to left field scoring Mikayla McCarthy for a Wildcat victory 10-1 over the Chestnut Hill Griffins.

Up next for the Cats a CACC double header against Felician, game starts at noon at Asbury Field.
