NEWARK, Del. - - Wilmington University softball standout freshman Mikayla McCarthy has been named to the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-East Region Second Team.
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-CACC selection, McCarthy led the Wildcats to a 37-17 overall record and a second place finish in the CACC regular season.
McCarthy (El Cajon, Calif./Steele Canyon) finished tied for second in the CACC with 18 wins while also finishing second in the league with a 1.69 ERA. Her 211 strikeouts are the most in the CACC this season, becoming only the second Wildcat pitcher and only the third time in program history to record more than 200 strikeouts in a season. She joins Katie Warrington (230 in 2011 and 230 in 2013) as the only other Wildcat pitcher to reach the mark.
Her 23 complete games rank tops in the CACC, as does her 194.2 innings in her freshman season. The 194.2 innings pitched are a Wildcats single season program record as well. Batters only hit .194 off the righty, the best opponents batting average in the CACC.
McCarthy went 18-10 on the season, going 10-2 inside the CACC. She struck out 9.39 strikeouts per game inside the CACC while also only allowing 1.58 runs per game and a .173 opponents batting average in league play.
