NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the first time in her senior season, Wilmington University's softball's Caitlyn Whiteside earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Whiteside went 4-0 this past week for the Wildcats, helping them to a 6-1 overall record. In 30.2 innings pitched, she allowed only 10 runs, nine walks, and 16 strikeouts. The senior from Bermuda Dunes, California had five strikeouts in 10 innings pitched in the Wildcats 9-8 win over West Chester. She also struck out six and allowed only two hits in WilmU's 14-0 win over Holy Family last Wednesday. She threw three complete games throughout the week, including a seven inning, 4-1 win over Bloomfield, where she allowed only one run and struck out five batters.
Caitlyn Whiteside finished with an ERA of 1.14 for the week and now sits fourth in the CACC with 1.99 ERA on the season. She is also first in the conference with 11 wins and sits third in the league with 58 strikeouts on the season.
Whiteside earned Co-Pitcher of the Week with Jefferson's Stephanie Pepper, who is first in the CACC with 85 strikeouts on the year.
Teammate Lauren Lopez earned a spot on this week's Honor Roll as she finished the week with 14 hits, including four doubles and one triple in 28 at bats and 14 RBI. Lopez broke the single game program record last week for RBI, totaling eight in the Wildcats 14-0 win against Holy Family. The sophomore went 4-for-4 with two doubles during the game. She also batted .500 for the week and finished with a .500 on base percentage and a .714 slugging percentage.
Women's lacrosse's Lashay Ross also earned a spot on the Honor Roll as she finished the week with seven goals and two assists. Ross had five of her seven goals in the Wildcats 17-11 win over Dominican, while finishing the week collecting four groundballs and winning eight draw controls.
