Softball’s Rosa’Lynn Burton Named to Schutt Sports/NFCA Player and Pitcher of the Year Top 25 List

NEWARK, Del. - - Junior outfielder Rosa'Lynn Burton has been named a Top 25 finalist for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Player and Pitcher of the Year award, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Burton (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) and the Wilmington University softball team carry a 32-12 record into their final regular season doubleheader on Saturday, as they travel to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Felician.

The junior outfielder currently leads the CACC with 73 hits, 50 stolen bases, and a .533 batting average. She is also second in the CACC with 51 runs, and a .561 on-base percentage. She is also fourth in the CACC with 88 total bases, fifth overall with four triples, and sixth overall with a .642 slugging percentage.

Among the entire NCAA Division II, Burton is fourth overall with her .533 batting average while leading the country in averaging 1.25 stolen bases per game. She is also fourth overall in scoring 1.28 runs per game and sixth overall in the country with 73 hits.

One other student-athlete from the East Region joins Rosa'Lynn Burton on the list, as LIU Post's Julia Seeder was also recognized. 

Among the student-athletes on the Top 25 list, there are 23 different programs represented. The only two schools with two student-athletes on the list are Winona State and West Florida. There are also 18 different conferences represented, with two conferences having three student-athletes each (Gulf South and Lone Star).

The Top 10 will be announced on May 14. The Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year will be announced after the NCAA DII Softball Championship on May 30.
