Annie Davila, Haley Downin, and Alyssa Velasquez Named First Team All-CACC for Wilmington Softball

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced its All-CACC Teams today, just ahead of the beginning of postseason play, and the Wilmington University softball team place three Wildcats on the First Team.

Seniors Alyssa Velasquez (Indio, Calif./Palm Desert) and Annie Davila (Yorba Linda, Calif./Yorba Linda), as well as redshirt freshman Haley Downin (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) were all named First Team All-CACC.

Alyssa Velasquez was a Second Team All-CACC shortstop in 2019, earning First Team for the first time in her career. She finished the regular season fourth on the team with a .348 batting average, and was third on the team with 22 RBI. She's had seven multi-hit games on the year, including going 2-for-3 with a double and a grand slam on Senior Day against Dominican. She has a season high three hits in the season opener against USciences and again in game one against Goldey-Beacom.

Annie Davila set a new Wilmington single season program record with 10 homers, which leads the CACC, and is now the program's all-time leading home run queen with 22 thus far. She has a slash line of .351/.396/.734, with her average ranking third on the team and her .734 slugging percentage ranking sixth in the CACC. She was a First Team All-CACC and Second Team All-Region performer in 2018, but as a utility player, marking this year the first time she has earned All-CACC as a catcher.

Haley Downin is the First Team All-CACC Pitcher Utility player, leading the team with a .384 batting average and going 6-2 in 14 appearances in the circle. She turned into the team's second baseman and leadoff hitter, collecting a 14-game hitting streak in the middle of the season. She is 15th in the CACC with a .384 batting average, and ninth overall with 10 stolen bases. She is also ninth in the CACC with six wins for the Wildcats. She's had a season high three hits in four separate games, including back-to-back games at Post in which she hit 6-for-7 with her lone homer on the day. She had a season high seven strikeouts in a win over Dominican in her last start as well. In 49.1 innings pitcher, she has 36 strikeouts and a 3.97 ERA.
