Wilmington Softball Places Six on CACC All-Academic Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - East Regional 1 Champion Wilmington University placed six student-athletes on the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office.

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.

The Wildcats, who advanced farther than any other team in program history, as they were one win away from the NCAA Division II Championships, were led on the All-Academic Team by three-time honoree Lauren Lopez. The Wildcats also had two-time honoree Kiersten Comer in addition to four newcomers in Haley Downin, Arianna Millan, Sara Miller, and Savannah Stone.

Fifteen (15) Post University and 14 University of the Sciences standouts were named to the All-Academic squad, which were the first and second highest marks in the conference. Emily Tarko led Post with a 4.0 grade point average, while USciences' top mark was Gianna Abruzese's 3.92.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  • Nine of the honorees earned GPAs of 3.90 or higher.
  • Thirty-five (35) of the honorees made the CACC Softball All-Academic Team for the second time.
  • Fourteen (14) of the honorees made the All-Academic squad for the third time.
