Three Student-Athletes Earn CACC Players of the Week for Wilmington

NEW HAVEM, Conn. – Three Wildcats have been named this week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara on Monday.

Softball's Rosa'Lynn Burton was named CACC Player of the Week, with Women's Lacrosse's Delaney Steele, who earned CACC Rookie of the Week, and men's Track and Field's, Brandon Cruz, who earned CACC Track Runner of the Week.

Junior Rosa'Lynn Burton earned this week's Softball Player of the Week, after batting .688 throughout four games played for the Wildcats. She had 11 hits, including one homerun, four RBI, and eight runs scored for WilmU. In the Wildcats 10-1 win over Dominican, she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases. In game one against Caldwell, Burton went 4-for-4 with three RBI, including a homerun, with three stolen bases. She finished the week out for the Wildcats with nine stolen bases, a .677 on base percentage, and a .875 slugging percentage. She currently leads the league with a .520 batting average and is first in the CACC with 45 stolen bases.  

Red shirt sophomore Delaney Steele earned Women's Lacrosse CACC Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row. She had another record-breaking week for the women's lacrosse team, as she finished the week with five goals, 18 assists, and 23 points. Steele broke the single-game record for assists in the Wildcats 22-9 win over Holy Family, before breaking it again, dishing out 10 assists in their 22-9 win over Caldwell. She also broke the single-game program record for points in game with 13 against Caldwell with her three goals and 10 points. She finished the week with 2.50 goals per game, 9.00 assists per game, and 11.50 points per game. Steele also had a .750 shot on goal percentage. She ranks second in the CACC with 48 assists on the year, while also sitting second in points on the season, with 74.

Freshman Brandon Cruz earned Wilmington University's first ever Track & Field CACC Runner of the Week after placing first in the 5K with a time of 15:56.33 this past weekend at the Rider Invitational. Out of 17 runners in the event, Cruz finished 3.20 seconds in front of the second place finisher to claim the first place spot. This is his first event for Track and Field that he has finished first. On March 16, Cruz finished second in the 3K with a time of 9:24.99 at the Maryland Invitational.

Baseball's Kendall Small earned a spot on the Honor Roll this week, as he had 11 hits, including two doubles and two homeruns, and 11 RBI. Small broke the programs all-time career RBI with his 144th RBI that came in the top of the eighth inning against Concordia with a solo homerun out to center field. Softball's Makayla McCarthy also earned a spot on the Honor Roll, as she went 25.1 IP, allowing 18 hits, and five runs, with 27 strikeouts for a 1.11 ERA. She tied her career-high 14 strikeouts against USciences, while throwing back-to-back shutouts against the Devils.

Women's Lacrosse's Brooke Siebert was named to the Honor Roll after scoring 11 goals, winning 22 draw controls, and finishing with 13 points. Siebert tied the single-game program record for draw controls with 14 against Holy Family. Men's Lacrosse's Dylan McCleaft was also named to the Honor Roll, as he finished the week with seven goals, two assists and nine points. He had four goals on six shots in the Wildcats 9-7 win over Post, and finished the week collecting 10 groundballs.
