Wilmington Places Most Honorees on the 2020 CACC Women’s Track and Field All-Academic Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Wilmington University women's track and field team placed eight student-athletes on the 2020 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Academic Team as announced by the conference Tuesday morning.

The Wildcats led all 13 schools with the most student-athletes on the list followed by Jefferson and Georgian Court who placed six honorees to the All-Academic Team.

Among the recipients on the list included senior Emma Kongevold, who led the women with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average studying elementary education: K-6. Senior Mikala Casimir earned a spot on the list after maintaining a 3.54 GPA while majoring in computer and network security. Jonna Maddox would be the lone junior to place on the All-Academic Team, as she earned a 3.78 GPA while majoring in criminal justice.

The remainder of the Wildcats' honorees encompassed five sophomores, including Rosemary Gilliam who sustained a 3.76 cumulative grade point average. Allison Hartwyk had the second-best GPA on the team with a 3.88 while studying biology, as Allyson Kelly earned a 3.61 GPA majoring in elementary education: K-6. Emily Navarette (3.65 GPA) and Grace Slate (3.70 GPA) rounded out the list for the women in their respective majors of political science and marketing.

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution. Requirements for eligibility for the all-academic teams were slightly altered this spring only, as the 2020 spring season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Emma Kongevold was one of two honorees to earn the highest cumulative grade point average on the list, as Georgian Court's Rachel Pausz also earned a 4.00 GPA in accounting. Five student-athletes earned a 3.90 GPA or higher.

Out of 42 honorees, 13 student-athletes were a two-time recipient of the All-Academic Team, while four student-athletes earned the honor for the third time throughout their careers.
