NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Wilmington University student-athlete Emma Kongevold on Friday was named the winner of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Top XVI Award in women's track & field for having the highest cumulative grade point average in the sport, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara.

Kongevold, a senior from Huntington Station, N.Y., owns a perfect GPA of 4.0 in her major of elementary education (K-6). In her lone season on the track team last year, she helped the team with four points in the triple jump at the CACC Championships, finishing fifth overall with a season's best distance of 10.29 meters. She also competed for the Wilmington University volleyball team for four seasons.

The CACC Top XVI Award is typically given out to the student-athlete who has the highest cumulative GPA and is competing at the final's site of each of the league's 16 championship events. However, for this spring only, all student-athletes in their respective spring sport were considered for the Top XVI Award as each of the CACC's seven spring championship events (men's tennis, softball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, baseball, men's track & field, women's track & field) were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, in order to be considered, the student-athlete must have earned at least 48 college credits toward their GPA, as well as being a member of the active roster. In the event of a tie, it is broken by the total number of credit hours earned.
