Tafadziswa Bunu Named CACC Track Athlete of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - First-year runner Tafadziswa Bunu earned four top-four finishes last week to help earn him the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Bunu is the first Wildcat track and field athlete to earn a CACC Player of the Week award in the program's three-year existence.

He set school records in both the 100-meter and 200-meter events, while also anchoring the 4x100-meter relay team to another school record on Saturday.

Bunu first broke the school record in the 100-meter event at the Delaware State Sting Invite with a 11.19 race, finishing second out of nine runners. He then broke his own record three days later at the Eastern Shore Challenge, running to a record 11.02 seconds to finish third out of 20 runners.

While at the Eastern Shore Challenge on Saturday, he set the new 200-meter mark with a time of 22.52 seconds, finishing third out of 22 racers. He was then the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter relay team of Jimmy Keenan, Matt Hibbert, and Tyler Levons, crossing the line in 43:03 to win the event out of five teams.

Joshua Varghese was named on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll after winning the hammer throw event at the Delaware State Sting Meet, and second at the Eastern Shore Challenge. He also finished second in the discus at the Eastern Shore Challenge.

The Wildcats are back in action this Saturday when they head to the Coach P. Invite at Moravian College.
