Highlighted by Two Distance Champions, WilmU Women’s Track & Field Finish Seventh at CACC Championships

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - A pair of distance champions led the Wilmington University women's track and field team to a seventh place finish at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships on Sunday, hosted by Georgian Court University.

The five Wildcats competed hard all afternoon, claiming 42 points overall. They finished ahead of USciences (35 points), Caldwell (18.50 points), Nyack (11 points), and Dominican (1.50 points).

The meet started off with a bang for the Wildcats, as Alexa Crowell (pictured left) won the first track event of the day. She pulled away late in the 10,000-meter event, winning going away with a school record 42:32.57. She beat the field by more than 63 seconds, becoming the first women's CACC Champion in program history.

Yailynn Ramirez (pictured right) was another highlight for the Wildcats on Sunday, as she became the second CACC Champion in program history with a win in another distance event. She came into the 5,000-meter event as the top seed with the fastest time of the season, and proved her worth as she beat the field by over 59 seconds. She also set a new school record, finishing in 19:28.49 to give the Wildcats 10 more points. Alexa Crowell finished sixth in the event with a time of 23:00.65, adding three more point to the team score.

Ramirez also set a school record in the 1,500-meter even, finishing fourth overall for five points. She finished with a time of 5:03.39 for her fourth place finish.

Freshman Kayla Crawford set two new school records on the day as well, first in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:00.55, finishing sixth overall to give the Wildcats three points. She also set a new school record in the 200-meter sprint, crossing the line in ninth place with a time of 26.81 seconds.

Vivianna Caamano had her best day of the season in the throws pits on Sunday, capping the CACC Championships with a third place finish in the hammer throw. She set a new personal record with a toss of 33.52 meters on her final throw of the day. She helped the overall team score with six points.

Lina Boussif was another multifaceted Wildcat on Sunday, running the 400-meter event with a season's best 1:19.37 while also opening both the 4x100 meter and 4x400-meter relay teams. She also raced across campus to the GCU Throws Pit and finished 10th out of 13 throwers in the hammer throw, besting her personal record by nearly six meters with a distance of 24.02 meters.

Georgian Court won its seventh CACC Championship in a row by earning 195 points on Sunday. Felician finished second overall with 109.50 points while Holy Family and Bloomfield tied for third with 105.50 points on the day.
