NEWARK, Del. - - Following the conclusion of the regular season, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announces its All-Region honorees for the 2021 outdoor track & field season, and the Wilmington University program earned five certificates for this past spring.
Tafadziswa Bunu and Matt Hibbert was named All-Region in both the 100-meter and 200-meter events while Joshua Varghese was named All-Region in the Hammer Throw. To be named All-Region by the USTFCCCA, a student-athlete needs to be in the top five of in the region, or top three in the region on a relay team.
Bunu's fastest 100-meter time of the season came at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships where he finished second with a time of 10.80, qualifying fourth in the East Region. His teammate Mathew Hibbert was fifth in the East Region with his 10.83 second 100-meter time at the Fast Times Before Finals.
Hibbert had the fourth fastest 200-meter time in the East Region with his 21.98 second race at the Fast Times Before Finals while Bunu had the fifth fastest 200-meter time in the East Region with his performance at the CACC Championships. Bunu raced sub-22 seconds as well, finishing with a time of 21.99.
Joshua Varghese's performance at the CACC Championships propelled him into the fifth spot in the East Region, as he won the CACC Championship with a toss of 47.92 meters. He finished sixth in the Region in the discus and 11th overall in the region in shot put.
The 4x100-meter relay time of 41.94 was the best in the CACC of 2021, but was only fifth fastest in the East Region, narrowly missing All-Region certification.
The five All-Region selections are second most in the CACC, behind only Georgian Court's 11. Bloomfield collected three while Holy had one All-Region performer.
