Matthew Hibbert Named CACC Track Athlete of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Matthew Hibbert turned in quite the day on Saturday, April 16 at the Bill Butler Invitational hosted by West Chester University. Hibbert's efforts gave him the honor of being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Matthew Hibbert faced off in a dense field for both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 100-meter dash event, there were a total of 36 sprinters and in the 200-meter dash a total of 48 sprinters. Hibbert was able to take on the tall task of having the best time in both events. Hibbert clocked an 11.17 second 100-meter dash, which is .32 seconds off of his season-best of 10.85. Hibbert's first-place finish in the 200-meter dash came at a time of 22.58 seconds, finishing .28 seconds ahead of the second-place finish.

For the second week in a row, Layla Hunt finds herself on the CACC Women's Track & Field Weekly Honor Roll. Hunt clocked a 16.23 second 100-meter hurdle time, which gave her the first-place honors at the Bill Butler Invitational. Joining her on the men's side are familiar faces, Josh Varghese and Akeel Blake. Varghese turned in another solid performance, winning both the discus and hammer throw. Blake took second in the long jump and third in the high jump at the Bill Butler Invitational.

The Wildcats travel up north to Pennsylvania this Saturday, April 23 to compete in the 15th Annual All-American Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University. The running events start at 10:30 AM with the men's 5,000-meter run followed by women. In the field, the throwing events also start at 10:30 with the women's hammer throw, men's shot put, and the men's javelin throw. The jumping events start at 11:00 AM with the men's long jump and the men's pole vault.
