Track and Field Reach Three More Qualifying Standards at the Paul Kaiser Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - - The Wilmington University Track & Field Team traveled with a light crowd of eight athletes to the 17th Annual Paul Kaiser Classic. For the Wildcats it was a day of season-bests, which is a great sign moving into the final week of preparation for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships next weekend.

Josh Varghese started off the day for the Wildcats in the hammer circle. He made finals, which is the top nine throwers in a dense field of 33. Varghese tossed out a season-best hammer throw with a distance of 47.29 meters. Varghese's toss placed him in sixth place overall. Varghese went right into the discus throw where again there was a field with a lot of throwers. Varghese's best distance was 44.57-meters, which was good enough for seventh place.

Bradley Spencer qualified in two new events for next weekend's CACC Championships. Spencer competed in the long jump event for the first time this season in his last meet to do so. Spencer leaped over six meters with the best mark of 6.15 meters. Spencer also qualified in the 100-meter dash today, with a time of 11.44 seconds. Jimmy Keenan missed the qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash by .01 of a second. Kennan finished with a time of 11.59 seconds. Alex Varona finished right behind Keenan with a time of 11.63 seconds.

Jalah Turner ran her best time in the 100-meter dash on the season, which qualified Turner for the 100-meter dash prelims for the CACC Championships. Turner crossed the line at 13.19 seconds, which is .30 seconds under the qualifying time.

Kharonay Brown also ran a season-best in the 200-meter dash. Brown was able to improve her time to 27.12 seconds. Turner also competed in the event, as she rounded the turn and came up the straightaway at 27.68 seconds.

The 4x100 relay team consisting of Jimmy Keenan, Bradley Spencer, Alex Varona, and Matthew Hibbert had a fifth-place finish with a time of 43.07, out of 11 total relay teams.

Mitchell Coll tossed another personal best in the men's javelin throw to round out the day for the Wildcats. Coll finished with his best throw on his last attempt going a distance of 43.14 meters.

The Wildcats have a week to prepare for their biggest meet of the season coming up on Saturday, May 7, and Sunday May 8.
