Four Wildcats Earn Five USTFCCCA All-Region Honors for 2021 Spring Season

NEWARK, Del. - - A program record four student-athletes were named All-Region in five events for the Wilmington University track & field team following an impressive 2022 spring outdoor season.

The Wildcats finished second overall at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships, led by their four United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region performers in Akeel Blake (long jump and high jump), Tyler Levons (100-meter), Shemar Parker (400-meter hurdles), and Joshua Varghese (discus).

Senior Joshua Varghese is the only Wildcat to earn All-Region in two different seasons, earning All-Region in the Hammer Throw in 2021. His season best of 45.35 meters in the discus throw at the Oscar Moore Invitational put him into the Top 5 in the region. His season long throw placed him fourth overall in the East Region this past season. He won the 2022 CACC Championship with a discus throw of 41.98 meters. He also finished eighth in the region in the hammer throw and 12th in the region in the shot put in 2022.

Akeel Blake became third Wildcat in program history to be a two-time All-Region performer in the same season, joining Taf Bunu and Matthew Hibbert from 2021. Blake shined in the jumps this year, earning All-Region in the high jump and long jump. His season long of 7.25 meters at the Mount Olive First Chance was millimeters away from an NCAA Division II Provisional mark, but landed him second best in the East Region for this season. His jump of 2.00 meters (6'6.75'') at the CACC Championships bumped him into fourth overall in the East Region in the high jump as well. Blake won the CACC Championship in the Long Jump, and was second overall in the high jump, earning All-Conference in both events.

Tyler Levons was the fastest man for the Wildcats in 2022, earning All-Region in the 100-meter category. His time of 10.67 at the Temple Invitational was the third fastest in the East Region in 2022, earning him All-Region. Unfortunately, an injury set Levons back and did not allow him to compete in the CACC Championships this spring. He came back for the Mount Olive First Chance (10.75 seconds) and the Final Qualifier (10.98 seconds) to close out the year.

Shemar Parker saved his best for last as well, running to an All-Region performance at the CACC Championships in the 400-meter hurdles event. His time of 55.06 in Lakewood, N.J., was the fourth fastest time in the East Region this season. He won the CACC Championships with that time, earning First Team All-Conference as well. He was also 13th in the Region in the pole vault, vaulting to a season's best 4.05 meters at the West Chester Invitational.

In the CACC, the men's side saw 21 All-Region honors brought in by 16 different student-athletes.
