The Goldey-Beacom women's basketball team hit five three-pointers in the second half to lead a late game comeback at Wilmington, 75-66, on Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Wildcats (3-12, 1-7 CACC) used a 14-3 start to the second half to take a 10-point lead as late as 12:21 remaining in the contest before the Lightning (6-11, 5-3 CACC) stormed back to take the lead for good on a layup with 8:14 showing on the scoreboard.
Trailing by 10 points with 2:40 remaining the first half, the Wildcats started their comeback right before the halftime buzzer. Katara Pressley laid one in before Cari Callaway pick-pocketed the Lightning in the backcourt and converted the layup with 1:23 to play to trail by six-points.
Tenicia Spence hit a three-pointer on their ensuing possession and Taylor Carter capped the late first half run with a jumper with seven seconds showing on the scoreboard, cutting the deficit to a single point to head into break.
Lindsay Bradford scored on the Wildcats' first possession of the second half to give the Wildcats their first lead since the 11:19 mark of the first half. Tied at 37-37, the Wildcats rattled off 10 straight points, capped by a Spence three-pointer with 13:17 remaining in regulation.
Goldey-Beacom hit a three-point to end the run, but Spence sank another trifecta on the ensuring possession to give the Wildcats a 50-40 lead with 12:21 showing on the scoreboard.
The Lightning responded with a 13-2 run of their own to retake the lead, 53-52 with 9:04 to play, putting the contest on a seesaw. Pressley put in a layup with 8:25 to play but the Lightning came right back and took the lead for good on a Britani Bryson layup with 8:14 to play.
Goldey-Beacom's Reighly Melochick scored 18 of her team high 20 points in the second half, hitting 4-of-5 from deep, three of which came while the visitors were in a 10-point hole.
Spence and Zameria Jones' scored 20 points each while Callaway came off the bench to score 10 points to lead the Wildcats. Jennifer Carr finished with a game high 11 rebounds while Taylor Carter tied the game high with seven assists.
Goldey-Beacom shot 42.9 percent from the floor for the game and had four players reach double-figures, led by Melochick's 20. The Wildcats shot 42.2 percent from the floor and hit 5-of-6 from three-point territory for the game.
The Wildcats hit the road for their next two contests, first at Georgian Court on Tuesday night for another CACC South Division doubleheader. The women kick off the doubleheader with a 6 p.m. start in Lakewood, N.J.
