Griffins Red Hot at Home in 102-67 CACC Victory over Wilmington Women’s Basketball

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - Chestnut Hill came out of the gates hitting shot after shot and never let up, going on to defeat the Wilmington University women's basketball team, 102-67, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Thursday night inside Sorgenti Arena.

Over half of the Griffins' (6-4, 3-2 CACC) points came from either beyond the three-point arc or the foul line, as the home team shot 54.4 percent from the field for the game. They knocked down 13 three-pointers, going 13-of-24 from deep for the game.

The hot shooting started early for the Griffins, as they shot 12-of-18 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in the first quarter. The Wildcats (4-7, 2-2 CACC) fell behind, 30-19, after the first quarter. The Griffins led wire-to-wire, never allowing the Wildcats to gain a lead.

The Griffins also hit both of their three-pointers in the second quarter, finishing the first half 6-of-7 from three-point territory. The Wildcats found themselves down 57-34, going into the halftime break.

The deficit grew to as large as 94-54 in the fourth quarter before settling on the final score, 102-67.

The Wildcats were led by LaShyra Williams' 14 points while Jamiere Jefferies produced a season's best 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed a team high eight rebounds in the loss. Macy Robinson was the final Wildcat in double figures, hitting a pair of three-pointers for 10 points.

The Wildcats shot 24-of-78 (30.8 percent) from the floor, including just 3-of-17 from beyond the three-point arc. The Griffins finished 37-of-68 (54.4 percent) form the floor including 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.

The 102 points are the second most the Wildcats have ever given up in a game, dating back to when they joined the NCAA for the 2004-05 season. They allowed 105 points against Bloomsburg on November 16, 2013.

The Wildcats will look to get back in the win column on Sunday when they return home to square off against cross-town rival Goldey-Beacom at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Wildcats and Lightning will be honoring the fallen firefighters from Delaware in 2016 prior to and during the game. The women's tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
