LaShyra Williams Named Co-Player of the Week in CACC’s Weekly Report

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - A new season high and leading her Wilmington University women's basketball team to a 1-1 mark over the holiday break has LaShyra Williams being named in this week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Report, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Williams (Seaford, Del./Seaford) was named the Co-Player of the Week after leading the team to a 1-1 mark last week. She averaged 23 points per game while shooting at a 50 percent clip. She was also lights out at the free throw line, hitting 16-of-19 in the two games. Williams added seven rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as well.

The junior transfer set a new season high with 33 points on December 28 at Kutztown, shooting 12-of-19 from the floor (63.2%) to get it done. She nearly collected her fourth double-double of the season against the Golden Bears, grabbing eight rebounds with five of them coming on the offensive glass. She added two assists, a steal, and a block in the process.

The Wildcats came home to face Lincoln (Pa.) on Friday and Williams poured in 13 more points, going 7-of-8 from the foul line. She grabbed six rebounds while dishing out three assists and adding a steal. She has scored double figures in all but one game so far this season.

Williams ranks seventh in the CACC in scoring 15.4 points per game while also ranking seventh with 95 overall rebounds. She is 12th in the league in grabbing 6.8 boards a game, however. She is second in the league in making 72 free throws so far this season.

This is Williams' first CACC Player of the Week honor this season, as she was named Co-Player of the Week with Bloomfield's Tianna Smith. Smith scored 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a win over Franklin Pierce during the break. Smith was also named the Defensive Player of the Week while Felician's Kristin Smith earned the CACC's Rookie of the Week honor.
