WATERBURY, Conn. - - A strong third quarter powered the Wilmington University women's basketball team to a 79-63 cross-divisional Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Post on Saturday.

The win, coupled with a Philadelphia University loss to Caldwell, moves the Wildcats (12-13, 9-7 CACC) to two games ahead of the Rams in fourth place in the CACC South Division. Post falls to 2-23 overall and 2-15 in the CACC.

The Wildcats were leading 34-25 at the halftime break, but it was a 29-17 outburst in the third quarter that separated the two teams. The Wildcats came out of the break and shot 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from the floor and 4-of-4 from the foul line to put up their biggest scoring output of the afternoon.

The Eagles had the game to within 45-38 with 5:04 left in the quarter but the Wildcats went on a 7-0 run sparked by an Emma Matthews three-point play to widen the gap to 52-38. A Post layup broke up the scoreless streak but the Wildcats went on another 7-0 run sparked by a LaShyra Williams three-point play to put the visitors up 59-40. The Wildcats also ended the quarter with the final four points to head into the final frame leading, 63-42.

Jasmine Lee opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer before back-to-back buckets from Williams and Karena Purnell gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the afternoon, 70-44, with 7:39 to play in regulation. The Eagles ended up outscoring the Wildcats, 21-16, but it was too little too late as the Wildcats came away with the much needed victory.

Macy Robinson paced the offense with 20 points in just 26 minutes, shooting 9-of-12 from the floor while hitting both of her free throws. She also added a team-high eight rebounds as well. Williams scored 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting while adding five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots in 32 minutes. Lee came off the bench to add 17 more points, shooting 5-of-11 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the foul line. She also contributed four steals and four rebounds on the afternoon.

The Wildcats return to action with their final regular season home game of the season on Wednesday night when they take on Chestnut Hill. Wednesday is also Senior Night for the Wildcats, as they will honor their two seniors prior to the start of the game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
