NEWARK, Del. - - The hot shooting Jefferson Rams powered their way to a 92-49 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division victory over the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Tuesday night at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Rams (15-2, 8-1 CACC) have now won nine of their last 10 games overall, shooting 55.2 percent from the floor on Tuesday to get it done. They sank 16-of-24 from beyond the three-point arc to lead wire-to-wire over the Wildcats (5-12, 2-7 CACC).
The Wildcats' Nyree Grant converted a layup from Emma Matthews late in the first quarter to bring the deficit to 16-13 with 2:26 showing on the clock. But the Rams answered with a 9-0 run until Matthews hit a jumper with 12 seconds left, closing the first quarter with the Rams on top, 25-15.
The Rams started the second quarter just as hot, going on another 10-0 run to open the margin to 38-15 with 6:35 left in the half. The three pointers kept falling for the visitors, as they made four more the rest of the way to outscore the Wildcats, 29-4, in the second quarter to take a 54-19 lead into the locker room.
Four more three-pointers went down for the Rams in the third quarter, as they took their largest lead of the game, 78-33, with 46 seconds left in the frame.
Five Rams finished in double digits, with 12 of the 13 players that played scoring at least a point. Rachel Day sank four three-pointers and shot 6-of-10 from the floor to finish with a game high 21 points for the visitors. Alynna Williams made all three of her three-pointers and finished with 13 while Erin Maher collected 11 points and nine rebounds. Jessica Kaminski added 10 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals in the win.
Grant led the Wildcats with 12 points, narrowly missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Matthews was the only other Wildcat to reach double figures, scoring 11 points while adding two rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Precious Palmer came off the bench to score eighth points on 4-of-7 shooting.
As a team, the Wildcats shot 34.9 percent from the floor, hitting just 3-of-15 from beyond the three-points arc.
The Wildcats will look to snap their three-game losing streak when they head to Nyack on Saturday for a CACC cross-divisional contest. The women will tip-off at 1:00 p.m. in Nyack, New York.
