USciences Sets New CACC Three-Point Mark in Victory over Women’s Basketball

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - USciences set a new Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference record with 21 made three-pointers on Tuesday night, sinking the Wilmington University women's basketball team, 89-47, inside Bobby Morgan Arena.

The nationally 13th ranked Devils (20-2, 12-1 CACC) went 21-of-44 from beyond the three-point arc, besting the conference mark by four three-pointers for a new single-game record.

The Wildcats (6-15, 3-10 CACC) got off to a slow start and never recovered, shooting just 2-of-13 from the floor in the first quarter. The Devils jumped out to a 27-5 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Devils went 9-of-19 from the floor, with seven of them coming form beyond the three-point arc, going 7-of-13 from deep in the opening 10 minutes.

The Wildcats shot well in the second quarter, hitting on 6-of-15 from the floor for 15 points, but the Devils extended the lead by shooting 8-of-16 from the floor, including 6-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc to outscore the Wildcats, 23-15. The Devils took a 50-20 lead into the halftime break.

The three-point barrage did not stop in the third and fourth quarters, as the Devils hit four more in each frame, totaling 21 on the night. The Devils took their largest lead of the night with 3:52 left in regulation, 85-51, as Jess Huber hit a final three-pointer for the home team.

Emma Matthews paced the Wildcats with 14 points and five rebounds, shooting 5-of-11 from the floor. Macy Robinson was the only other Wildcat to reach double figures, scoring 11 points on 5-of-15 from the floor. Mikala Casimir scored six points while adding a team high seven rebounds.

The Wildcats return to action and to the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday when they host CACC North Division leading Bloomfield. The opening tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Newark.
