Strong Finish Gives Wildcats 75-67 Victory Over Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – With a strong fourth quarter finish, the Wilmington University women's basketball team defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division foe Bloomfield, 75-67 Saturday afternoon at Bloomfield Gym.

The Wildcats (6-17, 6-9 CACC) scored 22 points to Bloomfield's (5-19, 4-11 CACC) 10 points in the final quarter of the game for WilmU to take the 75-67 win.

Wilmington saw themselves get out to a 15-3 lead to begin the first quarter with 4:59 left to play.  Graduate student Macy Robinson would hit five of her seven made threes in the quarter with 2:02 still to go and helping the Wildcats momentum into the second quarter with a 24-13 lead.

The Wildcats momentum was quickly diminished, though as the Bears went on an 11-0 run to start the quarter and tie the game up at 24-24 with 6:19 to play until halftime. Bloomfield would get their first lead of the game on a layup with 1:16 to go to put them up 30-28, but Robinson would net her seventh made three pointer with 1:02 to give the Wildcats a one point lead into halftime. Robinson would score all seven points for the Wildcats in the second quarter, as Bloomfield scored 17 points.

Back-and-forth action between the Wildcats and Bears would start the second half, as WilmU took a five point lead off of two made free throws from Kiara Eubanks. With 5:03 to play in the third, Bloomfield tied the Wildcats 44-44, before taking a 47-44 lead. WU would tie the Bears up at 49 apiece, before Bloomfield hit two back-to-back threes and end the quarter with a 57-53 lead.

Still down 61-56, Jaelyn Durrett would get the Wildcats back within two after a three-pointer, before Jadyn Whitsitt went back-to-back with two threes of her own to give the Wildcats the lead back, 65-61 with 5:44 to play. Bloomfield would tie the game back up at 65, but would be held to scoring only two more points for the Wildcats to finish on a 9-2 run.

Macy Robinson led all scorers with 29 points, scoring her first 22 in the first half. She had a season-high seven three-pointers, while pulling down six rebounds. Jadyn Whitsitt went 5-11 from the floor, scoring all 14 of her points in the second half, while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out five assists. Nyree Grant secured a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats are back home on Tuesday when they take on No. 5 USciences at the WU Athletics Complex. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
