First Quarter Run Powers Post Past Women’s Basketball

WATERBURY, Conn. - - An early 21-point run turned the first quarter around as Post defeated the Wilmington University women's basketball, 68-33, on Monday night inside the Drubner Center.

Playing on Monday as a makeup from January 15, the Wildcats (1-20, 1-15 CACC) jumped out to quick 4-0 lead, but then the North Division leading Eagles (16-7, 10-5 CACC) rattled off the next 21 points and never looked back.

The Eagles went on to win the first quarter, 21-8, and then scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to take a 31-8 lead. The Eagles won the second quarter, 19-10, to take a 40-18 lead into the halftime break.

Daja Claiborne and Jade Roberts each scored four points in the second quarter and then Claiborne added four more in the third quarter, but the Eagles were able to outscore the Wildcats, 16-10, in the third to lead 56-28.

Post took their largest lead of the night with 4:35 to play in the fourth quarter, 65-28, before settling on the final score of 68-33.

Daja Claiborne led the Wildcats with 10 points while grabbing two rebounds. Jade Roberts finished with eight points and four rebounds while Skylar Parris adding six points and three rebounds. Emily Ansah scored five board and grabbed five rebounds while Sabreen Muslim led the team with eight rebounds off the bench.

The Wildcats have another makeup game this week as they travel to Georgian Court on Thursday night. The opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Wellness Center.
