NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team begins its inaugural season next month, featuring four tournaments in the first season as head coach John York has announces its 2016-2017 schedule.
The Wildcats will compete along the East Coast in its first season, participating in highly touted regional tournaments hosted by teams that are routinely in the mix for an NCAA Tournament bid.
The season will start on November 5 with a smaller tournament at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference competitor Chestnut Hill. The team will compete in the one-day tournament at Devon Lanes in Devon, Pa.
The schedule picks up after the New Year with traditional three-day tournaments in January. The Wildcats will head to the Red Flash Invitational hosted by St. Francis University (Pa.) from January 27-29. St. Francis finished 13th in the final NCAA Bowling RPI list last season and start the 2016-17 season in 15th in the NTCA All Division Preseason Poll.
February starts with the Golden Bear Classic hosted by Kutztown University from February 10-12. The team will compete at the Bowl-O-Rama in Reading, Pa. The Golden Bears are one of the strongest teams among the Division II and III bowling programs, starting the year fourth in the NTCA DII/DIII Preseason Poll.
The regular season comes to a close at the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State University from February 17-19. The team will compete at the AMF Towson Lanes in Towson, Md.
The Wildcats will compete against multiple teams at each tournament, setting the stage for their first season in school history. The Wildcats are the fifth team in the CACC to add women's bowling, joining Caldwell, Chestnut Hill, Felician, and Post.
