Bailey Peters' 196.8 Average Leads Wilmington Bowlers to 2-3 Record in Traditional Matches at FDU Jamboree

STRATFORD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team bookended their five traditional matches with wins on Saturday at the FDU Jamboree, going 2-3 overall but still sits in 14th playing at the 30 Strikes Lanes.

In the traditional matches, the Wildcats picked up wins against NCAA Division I foes Howard and Bethune-Cookman, but fell to St. Francis (NY), Sacred Heart, and Felician. They had 4,286 pins fall on Saturday, giving them 8,390 for the tournament to put them in 14th overall with a 167.8 average.

Freshman Bailey Peters led the charge for the Wildcats, ranking tied for eighth overall with a 196.80 on Saturday. Freshman Rachel Hirst is 22nd overall at the FDU Jamboree with a 184.00 average in playing all five matches.

In the opening win over Howard, Hirst led the way with a day's high 209, Peters followed up with a 198 while Sinoda Cook knocked down 169 pins. The Wildcats won 872-820 over the Bison.

Hirst again led the Wildcats in their 914-857 loss to St. Francis, knocking down 186 pins. Clare Chaffer put down 185 while Peters followed with 171 pins.

Peters picked up her first 200-game of the afternoon against Sacred Heart, leading the team with a 202 score. Malia Stout followed with 146 pins while Chaffer added 145 in the 946-767 loss.

The Wildcats put their best match together against ECC foe Felician, but fell 942-902 to the Golden Falcons. Hirst bowled a team high 205 in the loss while Chaffer backed her up with a 188. Peters finished with a 183 while Leah Henry finished with her best match of the day with a 171. Stout rounded out the score against Felician with a 155.

The day ended on positive note for the Wildcats, as they came back and defeated Bethune-Cookman, 888-789. Peters finished strong with the best performance of the afternoon for the Wildcats, bowling a 230. Shaffer collected her personal high of the afternoon with a 217 while Hirts added a 179-game.

Host Fairleigh Dickinson leads the tournament with a 199.6 average, putting down 5,037 pins on Saturday. They are 8-2 overall with 9,982 total pins. Sacred Heart is second in the tournament with 9,734 total pins (194.7 average), and the only undefeated team at 10-0.

Individually, FDU's Karsyn Lukosius tallied a 243.60 average to lead the pack, knocking down 1,218 pins on the day. Monmouth's Jacqueline Evans is second with 1,111 pins, going for a 222.20 average.

The Wildcats head into bracket play tomorrow as the No. 14 seed. They first play Howard and have a chance to claim 11th place overall with three victories on Sunday.
