Bowling Remains in Seventh Place After 1-4 Day in Traditional Matches at Wildcat DII/DIII Invite

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University bowling team tallied the sixth most pins in five traditional matches on Saturday, but still sits in seventh place after two days and 10 matches at its own 2017 Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational hosted at the Bowlerama.

Despite going 1-4 in the five traditional matches, the Wildcats knocked down 4,185 pins, which was the sixth most among the 12 teams. The Wildcats inched closer to Felician, but remain in seventh place after two days of action at its first ever home tournament. They have a total of 8,268 pins, averaging 165.4 per match so far this weekend.

The Wildcats started the afternoon with a 917-837 loss to Mount Aloysius. Bailey Peters led the team with a score of 178, which would prove to be Peters' highest of the day. The team then lost to Felician, 845-824, while being led by Sinoda Cook's 186. Felician is currently ranked ninth in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III National Poll.

The team picked up their lone win of the day against Penn State-Altoona, 839-533. Malia Stout led the Wildcats with the best match of the afternoon, posting a 215 against the Lions. But the Wildcats followed the win up with their lowest score of the afternoon against Pitt-Bradford, falling 853-816. Stout again led the team in the match, knocking down 180 pins.

The Wildcats ended the afternoon with their best pinfall match of the day, narrowly falling to Chestnut Hill, 877-869. Chestnut Hill is ranked 15th in the NTCA Division II/III National Poll. Cook posted a 208 for the Wildcats while Clare Chaffer backed her up with her best match of the day with a 197.

Stout paced the Wildcats with a 177.60 average in bowling all five matches, knocking down 888 pins on the day. She ranks 13th overall among all 77 bowlers in the tournament.

Chaffer only trailed Stout by 21 pins, ranking 15th overall with 867 total pins. She tallied a 173.40 average in bowling all five matches, including her day's best 197 against Chestnut Hill.

Peters is the third Wildcat in the individual standings, coming in at 21st overall. She knocked down 830 total pins for a 166 average in bowling all five matches. She had a day's high 178 against Mount Aloysius while also have three matches in the 160's for the day.

Cook only bowled in four matches but ranks 38th overall with 682 total pins down. She tallied a team third best 170.5 average in those four matches, including her day's high 208 against Chestnut Hill. She also posted a 186 against Felician.

Rachel Hirst also bowled in four matches for the Wildcats, knocking down 633 total pins. She finished with a 158.25 average, led by her day's high 170 against Felician. She is in 48th overall after the traditional matches.

Leah Henry rounds out the Wildcats while competing in two matches, knocking down 285 pins. She totaled 158 against Pitt-Bradford before knocking down 127 more against Chestnut Hill. She finished with a 142.50 average and is in 71st place in the standings.

Sunday features bracket style Baker Matches, with the seventh place Wildcats first squaring off against eighth ranked LIU Post. If the Wildcats win all three Baker Matches tomorrow, they can finish as high as fifth place overall.

Bowling on Sunday begins at 9:45 a.m. at Bowlerama.
