SINKING SPRING, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team went 1-2 during bracket play at the Golden Bear Classic on Sunday, finishing 11th overall in the Baker Tournament at the Berks Lane hosted by Kutztown University.

The Wildcats went into Bracket Play in 10th place after 10 matches throughout Friday and Saturday. The team went 6-4 in the opening two days, knocking down 8,478 total pins for a 169.6 average.

On Sunday, the team went into Bracket Play against ninth positioned Mount Aloysius. The Wildcats fell behind early, but won the fourth game, 175-139, to continue the match. Mount Aloysius finished off the Wildcats in the fifth game, however, knocking the Wildcats down a tier.

The Wildcats then hooked up with Chestnut Hill, getting off to a better start against the Griffins. The Wildcats won games two and three, collecting a match high 188 pins in the second game. The Wildcats were one game away from victory, winning the fifth game, 182-177, but the Griffins battled back to take games six (178-174) and seven (188-148) to win the match, 4-3.

Wilmington bounced back in the third match, placing 11th with a win over LIU Post. The Wildcats posted three of their best games of the day against the Pioneers, starting the match with their best of the day, 246-154, to get off to a good start. The Pioneers tied the match with a win in the second game, but the Wildcats fired back with wins in the next three games to take the match, 4-1. They posted a score of 206 in the final game, while also picking up 198 pins in a win in the third game.

Duquesne came from third place on Sunday to win the Golden Bear Classic over Adelphi. Adelphi started atop the standings after two days and advanced to the championship game. But Duquesne defeated Franklin Pierce and St. Francis (Pa.) to get to the final. Adelphi raced out to a 3-1 lead but Duquesne fought back with wins in the final three games to take the championship.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend, as they head to the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State University in Towson, Md. The Wildcats will compete in the three-day tournament at the AMF Towson Lanes.
