Bowling Opens 2018-19 Season with Five Baker Matches at Bud Whitman Memorial

SINKING SPRING, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team began its 2018-19 season on Saturday at the Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament hosted by Kutztown, going 1-4 in Baker Matches while sitting in 14th overall with a total pin fall of 3,985.

The Wildcats faced off against three nationally ranked teams in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Poll (NTCA) in #13 St. Francis (Pa.), #15 Adelphi, and #19 LIU Brooklyn in their first action of the season.

The team picked up a win over Howard in its third Baker match of the day, taking down the NCAA DI opponent, 792-763. The Wildcats put down the most pins on the day in their final match against Chestnut Hill, but the Griffins came out with the narrow victory, 860-857.

The day opened with an 861-766 loss to #19 LIU Brooklyn before an 866-778 loss to #15 Adelphi. #13 St. Francis defeated the Wildcats, 920-792, before the final match against Chestnut Hill to wrap up the day.

Mount St. Mary's leads the Bud Whitman Memorial after the Baker Matches, going 5-0 while knocking down 4,579 pins. Eighth ranked Delaware State is second overall with a total pin fall of 4,481 while LIU Brooklyn is third with 4,410.

Sunday will feature five traditional matches for the Wildcats at Berks Lane.
