LIMERICK, Pa. - - The Wilmington University bowling team set a new program record in their second Baker Match of the KU Invitational, and then picked it up a notch and broke 1,000 pins for the first time in program history, going 2-3 overall and ranking 19th of 28 at the Limerick Bowl.

In five Baker Matches, the Wildcats knocked down 4,683 pins for an average of 187.3 per match, ranking 19th of 28 teams at the famed KU Invitational. Over 1,000 of those pins came in one match, as they defeated Monmouth, 1,007-833, in their third match of the day.

The Wildcats first broke their Baker Match record with a 982-pin performance against Delaware State, only to be outdone by the third highest score of the day, 1,110-982, to the Division I Hornets.

That record didn't stand for long for the Wildcats, as they broke the 1,000-point barrier in their very next match against Monmouth. They defeated the Hawks, 1,007 to 833, for their first win of the afternoon.

The Wildcats backed that up with another win in their next contest, defeating Chestnut Hill, 887-885, in a close ECC battle. They closed out the day with another solid performance on the lanes with 941 pins, but fell to another NCAA DI opponent LIU Brooklyn, 971-941.

The team's three highest Baker scores have come this season for the Wildcats, the third season in program history.

Fairleigh Dickinson leads the tournament with a total of 5,196 pins, averaging 207.8 pins per game. Stephen F. Austin State is second overall with a 107.2 average while Arkansas State finished third after the first day with a 206.3 average.

The Wildcats will play five Traditional Matches tomorrow afternoon and will square off against St. Francis (Pa.), University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Fairleigh Dickinson, Duquesne, and St. Francis (N.Y.), all NCAA Division I universities.
