Wildcats Finish 11th Overall in Final Day of Golden Bear Classic

SINKING SPRING, Pa. – On the final day of the Golden Bear Classic, the Wilmington University women's bowling team finished in 11th place out of 16 teams at Berks Lane.

The women rounded out the tournament by knocking a total of 4,409 pins down in 25 games played.

For Sunday's Baker Bracket Play, both competing teams had the chance to win four matches out of seven contests. The first team to win four games wins the match. The Wildcats started the day against Roberts Wesleyan in a rematch from the day before for the first round of Baker Bracket Play. WilmU started the round out hot with a 207-148 win, but Roberts Wesleyan took the next four matches to defeat the Wildcats, 4-1.

In the second round the Wildcats faced off with Kutztown, where they found themselves down three matches to zero, but stayed alive by taking the fourth set, 201-160. Wilmington would have another good round and take the fifth game, 220-157, to make it a 3-2 contest, but the Golden Bears would hang on to take the final round, 227-198.

In their final round of bracket play, the Wildcats faced off with LIU Post, making a clean sweep going 4-0 against the Pioneers to secure the 11th place spot in the tournament.

Adelphi defeated LIU Brooklyn in the final round of bracket play to take the first place spot in the tournament. The Blackbirds finished second on Sunday after leading the tournament with a total of 4,787 pins on Saturday. Adelphi was seeded second going into Sunday.

Diamond Hunter of Morgan State took home MVP of the Tournament with a 22.6 Baker Average on Saturday. The Wildcats were led by Rachel Hirst's 18.8 Baker Average in five matches on Saturday.

The Wildcats head to Towson, Maryland, next weekend to play in the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State University. The tournament will begin Friday and finish Sunday, February 17.
