Women’s Bowling Begins 2019-20 Season With Ninth Place Finish at Bud Whitman Memorial Baker Tournament

SINKING SPRING, Pa. - - The Wilmington University bowling team started its 2019-20 season at the Bud Whitman Memorial tournament, finishing ninth overall with a 178.3 average in five Baker style matches on Saturday at the Colonial-Berks Lane.

In head-to-head matches, the Wildcats went 3-2 overall, with a day high 948 to take down No. 22 ranked Adelphi.

The day started with a victory for the Wildcats, defeating East Coast Conference foe Felician, 888-782. But the day hit a snag in the next two matches, as the Wildcats dropped matches to Chestnut Hill, 969-879, and No. 20 Duquesne, 966-823.

The day finished strong for the Wildcats, as they had their best outing in their fourth and fifth matches. They defeated No. 20 Adelphi, 948-928, and then closed the day with a victory over Bloomfield, 920-689.

There were 11 matches in which teams put down over 1,000 pins on the day, led by Mount St. Mary's with three matches. But Duquesne won the Baker Tournament being the only team with an average over 200 for 25 games. They came in first with 5,006 downs pins and going 4-1 on the day. Adelphi finished second overall, going 4-1, and knocking down 4,918 pins for a 196.7 average.

A Traditional Style Tournament on Sunday will conclude the Bud Whitman Memorial. The Wildcats will square off against #24 Long Island, Molloy, Kutztown, Caldwell, and No. 21 Mount St. Mary's on Sunday.
