Women’s Bowling CC Riojas Earns Second ECC Rookie of the Week Honor

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. - - For the second time this season, Wilmington University freshman bowler CC Riojas has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.

The freshman bowler helped lead the Wildcats to their first ever tournament victory last week, winning the Virginia Union University Invitational. The Wildcats now stand atop the ECC with a 22-9 overall record, good enough for a .710 winning percentage. She was also named the ECC Rookie of the Week on October 24.

CC Riojas (San Antonio, Texas) was the top Wildcat finisher at the VUU Invitational, placing third overall with a 189.20 average to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Her total of 946 is the 13th best in program history, besting her previous high by 17 pints. She had a day's best 245 against Coppin State, the sixth best individual match in program history. She also bowled a 191 in the bye, and a 184 in the match against Mt. Aloysius.

Fellow freshman KC Miller earned a spot on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll, placing fifth overall at the tournament with a 187.40 average. She also earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for her efforts. Her 937 five-match total is a new personal best, improving upon her 885 at the Bud Whitman Memorial.

The Wildcats are off this week, and return to action Friday, November 15 when they host the Wildcats DII/III Invitational at Bowlerama in New Castle, Delaware. It is a three-day tournament.
