NEW CASTLE, Del. - - A new Baker Match record highlighted the day for the Wilmington University women's bowling team, as it is in first place at its own 2019 DII/DIII Wildcat Invitational, 331 pins over second place, after five Baker Matches on Friday afternoon at Bowlerama.
The Wildcats went 4-1 on the day, knocking down a total of 4,795 pins to lead Chestnut Hill by 331 pins. Wilmington leads its own tournament after a 191.8 game average while Chestnut Hill finished with a 178.6 per game average.
The Wildcats started the five Baker Matches with a victory over Bloomfield, beating the Bears by a score of 952-918.
Wilmington then had its record-breaking match, knocking down 1,063 pins in a win over Mount Aloysius. The win surpassed the 1,028-pin mark set last year at the James Brown Invite against Delaware State. It is the fifth Baker Match in which the Wildcats crossed the 1,000-pin plateau, but the first this season. The other fourth 1,000+-pin Baker Matches all happened last season. The Wildcats defeated Mt. Aloysius, 1,063-898.
The Wildcats moved to 3-0 on the day with a 952-876 victory over Daemen and then won their fourth match of the day with a 971-817 victory over Kutztown.
The only blemish on the day came in the fifth match of the day, as the Wildcats fell to Chestnut Hill, 914-857.
The Wildcats are a part of five teams that went 4-1 on Friday, along with Chestnut Hill, Felician, Caldwell and Mount Aloysius. Chestnut Hill is in second with a 4,464-pin total while Molloy is in third place with a 4,405 total pin fall on Friday.
The Wildcats will bowl in five traditional matches on Saturday, looking to maintain its first place standing. The Wildcats will face off against New Jersey City, Caldwell, Mercyhurst, Molloy, and Medaille at Bowlerama.
