KC Miller Leads Wilmington Bowling at Star-Studded Northeast Classic

DEPTFORD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University bowling team heads into bracket play with a 2-8 record after Baker and Traditional days at the Northeast Classic, hosted by Long Island University and Sacred Heart at Bowlero Deptford.

On Friday, the Wildcats started with a win over nationally ranked No. 17 and host Long Island, 948-943, but then the Wildcats fell in their final four matches to other nationally ranked teams. The first match of the game provided the highest score for the Wildcats, as they fell to No. 18 UMES, 994-925, No. 14 Delaware State, 1,072-897, No. 25 Monmouth, 1,067-882, and No. 4 North Carolina A&T, 1,027-916.

Saturday proved to be more tough sledding for the Wildcats, as they squared off against five more nationally ranked opponents. After falling to No. 19 Sacred Heart in the opener, the Wildcats got another chance against the Pioneers, defeating the co-hosts with a score of 1,017-1,014. That proved to be their best score of the afternoon, as they fell to No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson, 980-939, No. 9 Mount St. Mary's, 1,088-882, and No. 12 Duquesne, 1,027-912, to close out the day.

The Wildcats finished with a total pinfall of 4,568 on Friday and another 4,616 in the traditional matches on Saturday for a total of 9,184 pins.

The Wildcats were led by KC Miller's 971 five-match total on Saturday. She finished with three matches over 200-pins, with a day's high 214 against No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson. She also posted a 209 against No. 19 Sacred Heart and a 202 against No. 9 Mount St. Mary's. She had a team high 194.2 five-match average on Saturday.

CC Riojas had the best individual match of the day for the Wildcats, putting down 227 pins against Fairleigh Dickinson. She had a score of 197 against Sacred Heart as well, finishing with a five-match total of 924 for a 184.8 average.

Rachel Hirst had two 200-match scores on Saturday, led by a 222 in the win against No. 19 Sacred Heart. Hirst also posted a team best 207 in the opening match against Sacred Heart. She finished with a 910 total, good enough for a 182.0 average.

Malia Stout was fourth on the team with a total of 900 pins, having a day's best match against No. 12 Duquesne with a 201. She bowled a 180 average in the five matches.

Sydney Jones bowled in the final four matches, putting down 217 pins in the win against No. 19 Sacred Heart.  She also posted a 193 against No. 12 Duquesne, totaling 757 for a four-match average of 189.25.

Desiree Dent put a score of 154 on the board in the opening match of the day against No. 19 Sacred Heart to round out the Wilmington scoring.
