Wilmington Captures Title on First Day of Griffin Baker Classic

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University bowling team won the first day of the Griffin Baker Classic on Saturday, going 3-1 while knocking down 4,439 pins to earn the title at the Bowlero Wilmington in Prices Corner.

The two-day Griffin Baker Classic is split up into two one-day tournaments, as all teams will start fresh once again on Sunday.

The Wildcats had a five-match average of 177.6 on Saturday, defeating Adelphi who knocked down 4,418 pins for a 176.7 average. Molloy finished third with a total of 4,351 pins and a 175.0 average.

The Wildcats were led by freshman Sydney Jones, as she finished the day with a 19.79 Baker frame average. CC Riojas had an excellent day as well, finishing with a 19.22 Baker frame average. Rachel Hirst added an 18.30 Baker frame average while Malia Stout added a 17.53 Baker frame average on the day.

Sydney Jones was at the top of the tournament on Saturday, earning Tournament MVP for her efforts. Both she and CC Riojas were named to the All-Tournament team for their scores. 

Wilmington will wipe the slate clean and start all over tomorrow with matches against Adelphi, Molloy, Felician, St. Thomas Aquinas, and a final match against Adelphi.
