Sydney Jones Named ECC Women’s Bowling Rookie of the Week

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. - - For the first time this season, the Wilmington University bowling team has earned an East Coast Conference (ECC) Bowler of the Week, as freshman Sydney Jones was named the Rookie of the Week on Thursday.

The Wildcats enjoyed a pair of good showings at the Griffin Baker Classic, winning the tournament on Saturday and finishing in a close third place on Sunday. The Wildcats were led by Sydney Jones, as she was named the Tournament MVP on Saturday and again earned All-Tournament Team status on Sunday.

On Saturday, she led the Wildcats with a 19.79 Baker frame average, finishing tops on the day to earn Tournament MVP. She came back and finished third on Sunday as well, posting an 18.93 Baker frame average to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She led the ECC with a strike percentage of 52.0 and ranked second with an overall frame average of 19.54.

Mercyhurst's Samantha Strebel was named the ECC Bowler of the week, leading the ECC with a 20.01 frame average at the Railsplitter Invitational at Lincoln Memorial.

The Wildcats have this weekend off to prepare to host the Wildcat Division II Invitational at Bowlerama Wilmington starting on Friday, February 18.
