Three Goals in 68 Second Span Creates Momentum as Nyack Downs Wilmington Women’s Lacrosse, 19-16

NYACK, N.Y. - - With the game tied 12-12 early in the second half, Nyack rattled off three straight goals to take control, leading to a 19-16 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Moseley Field.

The largest lead of the afternoon was only three goals as both teams battled back and forth throughout. The Wildcats (3-9, 3-3 CACC) scored the games' first two goals for their largest lead of the afternoon with the Warriors (4-9, 2-4 CACC) leading by as many as four goals.  

Trailing 9-6 late in the first half, the Wildcats scored four of the next five goals to tie the score. La'Dae Boykin and Gabby Spalt scored back-to-back goals before Marisa Parker and Sara LeBrun scored back-to-back free position goals to bring the score to 10-10 with 56 seconds left. But the Warriors responded just 12 seconds later to regain the lead, 11-10, heading into the break.

The team's traded goals to start the second half, with Spalt tying the game with a goal with 26:22 left in regulation. But that is when Nyack started its run, scoring the next three goals, all in 1:08 span of game time, to take a 15-12 lead with 23:15 to play.

Shawna Chopko ended the run with a free position go, but the Warriors answered right back with two free position goals of their own to move ahead, 17-13, with 15:37 showing on the clock.

Boykin and LeBrun tried to bring the Wildcats back by scoring the Wildcats' next here games, but the Warriors always had an answer, finding the back of the net after each Wilmington goal.

Boykin led the Wildcats with five points, scoring a hat trick while adding two assists as well. Spalt and LeBrun also added hat tricks while dishing out an assist each. Parker recorded her first hat trick of her career with three goals on four shots. Megan Card scored two goals and added an assist while Chopko and Alexis Olsen scored one goal each.

Nyack narrowly out shot the Wildcats, 36-35, but won the battle in the circle, 22-15, on draw controls. The Wildcats scooped up more ground Balls, 22-21, and put 7-of-13 in goal on free-position opportunities.

The Wildcats return home for their next two CACC games, as they host CACC leading Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. The opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
