Chestnut Hill Pulls Away from Wilmington Women’s Lacrosse for 22-6 CACC Victory

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team spotted Chestnut Hill the first four goals of the game and then couldn't stop the Griffins as they ran away with a 22-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory on Tuesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

After the Wildcats (4-8, 2-3 CACC) were down 4-0 in the early going, they battled back to within two goals twice, first at 4-2 and then again at 5-3. La'Dae Boykin scored with 8:52 to play in the first half to put the score at 8-5, but then the Wildcats didn't score again for nearly 40 minutes of game time.

The Griffins (3-7, 3-1 CACC) rattled off the final six goals of the first half to take a 14-5 lead into the break and then scored the first eight goals of the second half to put the game away.

Auryonah Nash scored with 34 seconds showing on the clock to snap the scoreless streak at 39:58 of game time for the Wildcats.

Gabby Spalt and Boykin led the Wildcats with two goals each while Spalt added an assist for three points. Alexis Olsen scored in the first half while Nash rounded out the Wildcat scoring with a goal. Lashay Ross added an assist for the home team.

The Griffins controlled the bulk of the possession of the game, especially in the first half, explained by the 20-9 victory in draw controls. Chestnut Hill gathered more draws, 15-5, in the first half as well.

Julia Galantich led the Griffins with five goals and an assist while Jacklyn O'Leary and Spencer Fitzgerald added four goals each. Samantha Herron controlled 12 of the team's 20 draw controls on the afternoon.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday when they take on Georgian Court at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
